Profile
I love photography. That’s me on the left. (I’m better behind the camera than in front of it).
I am an experienced photographer based in Sydney. Specialising in portrait and family photography, I aspire to create photographs that can evoke the emotions of a moment long past. To successfully capture people’s expression of joy is an incredibly rewarding experience.
I have always had a love for photography. I was the kid that brought a camera on school trips, and I remember my first Polaroid won at a raffle – my dad wondered whether it was a trick to get us to buy the expensive cartridges. I owned an APS film camera, and I remember waiting for digital to have enough resolution to impress me, finally buying a 4MP Canon IXY i while living in Japan.
Initially I was interested in landscape and travel photography, and also a good dose of macro photography. Since then my focus has shifted from landscapes and animals to people and events. I have studied many different aspects of photography and have a keen interest in the lighting work of famous photographers such as Joe McNally and David Hobby.
Photography is not a skill measured by years owning a camera and I seek to continuously and actively integrate new skills and techniques into my photographic style.
Choosing a photographer
It is very difficult to choose a photographer with all the choices around us. Even when you see an impressive website, it only reflects a talented marketing team. You may not even get the same photographer as the one who took the photos you saw.
This is especially true if you are hiring a ‘studio’, usually made of one ‘main’ photographer plus other photographers/assistants/interns/students of varying skills and experience. For franchised studios, the staff may not even know who took the photos hanging in their shops!
Good photography is a combination of technical skill, creativity, awareness of ‘moments’, and attitude. The photographer must be able to communicate and relate to you, in order to capture images that please you.
This is why choosing a boutique photographer versus a big studio is like choosing a local restaurant where the chef comes out to chat with you, versus going to a restaurant chain. I will spend time getting to know you and your needs, and I will remember you when you come back for another session the next year.
Why choose me
The only way to know if a photographer can produce photos you want is by looking at their images from similar events in the past. Unlike photographers who have a slideshow of only the best selected photos from the past 10 years, I show complete sets of my work for everyone to see. You know exactly what you can expect.
I can guide you throughout the shoot to ensure you are shown at your best. I will help you relax so that your smiles look natural and not posed. The shoot will be both enjoyable and rewarding.
I take pride in my work. I will only accept jobs where I am confident I will delight you and exceed your expectations. This is how we can offer our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
When I book your job, I will quarantine time before and after so that I will be focused on just you. I will not be doing another session 10min after you leave. I will not be thinking about the 3 sessions on the next day while directing your session.
Every image is individually edited to achieve the best output. I spend many hours selecting and editing photos for each hour that I shoot. I will go through the whole set multiple times to make sure the photos tell a coherent story, to make sure the lighting is consistent from frame to frame, and to make sure there are no variations in color balance.
